The NZ Heritage Hockey Weekend\, held over Easter\, brings together players\, whānau\, and supporters to celebrate the history\, culture\, and diversity of hockey in Aotearoa. \nThe event features matches against a variety of ethnic representative teams and highlights the cultural richness within our hockey community. Strong participation from NZ Māori Hockey\, NZ Indian Hockey\, and Pasifika teams ensures a vibrant programme that reflects the many communities who have shaped hockey in New Zealand. \nIt’s a colourful\, family-friendly weekend that honours community\, identity\, and the deep heritage of our sport.

DESCRIPTION:Matariki Hockey 5s is a fast\, fun\, community-driven tournament held each year around Matariki\, the Māori New Year. Run by NZ Māori Hockey and Counties Manukau Hockey\, it uses the quick\, exciting Hockey5s format (4 players + goalie) to bring whānau together and celebrate culture during the winter break. \nWhat to know: \n\n\nFormat: Fast\, small-field Hockey5s — easy to play\, exciting to watch. \n\n\nWhen: Around Matariki in late June/early July. \n\n\nPurpose: Celebrate Māori culture and unite the hockey community in an inclusive\, all-ages event. \n\n\nWhere: Usually hosted at Counties Manukau Hockey\, Pukekohe. \n\n\nFor future dates\, keep an eye on Counties Manukau Hockey and NZ Māori Hockey social pages leading up to Matariki.

DESCRIPTION:Hosted by: Waikato-Maniapoto Māori Hockey\, 23-26 Oct 2026 \nLocation: Gallagher Hockey Centre\, 0 Queens Avenue\, Frankton\, Hamilton 3204 \nThe National Tournament is held every year over Labour Weekend and is an official listing on the NZ Hockey Federation calendar of events. \nContact your Rohe Delegate or Kaunihera for information on team trials and registrations. Participation is open to individuals of Māori descent affiliated with their representative rohe\, ensuring a strong connection to ancestral lands and communities that enhances cultural understanding and authenticity. \n\nTOURNAMENT SCHEDULE \nFriday: Pōwhiri at 1pm followed by the first round of games\nSaturday: Games continued\nSunday: Semi-finals & Pō Whakangahau\nMonday: Finals\, awards & Poroporoaki at 3pm \n\nPŌ WHAKANGAHAU \nWe want to emphasise the importance of coming together to share tikanga through kapa haka\, waiata\, and kai.
