From 14–20 September, Ōtautahi Christchurch hosted the 2025 Ford National Hockey Championship. It was inspiring to see so many talented NZ Māori Hockey players representing their regions, with their skill, leadership, and pride in whakapapa on full display—paving the way for the next generation.
For many, the NHC was more than just competition—it was an opportunity to honour whakapapa, strengthen pathways for future talent, and inspire the next generation of Māori hockey players.

- Tier 2 Men: Wairarapa
- Tier 2 Women: Canterbury Barracudas
- Tier 3 Men: Canterbury Cobras

NZ Māori Hockey is very proud of our athletes. The list of Māori players, coaches, and officials is growing so fast it’s becoming hard to name everyone without unintentionally leaving someone out. Their contributions on the field and in governance are helping to honour whakapapa, create pathways for future talent, and inspire the next generation of Māori hockey players.
