PUBLIC STATEMENT – CLARIFICATION OF MĀORI HOCKEY ENTITIES

For clarity, two separate legal entities now exist: New Zealand Māori Hockey Inc. Est.1997 and the newly formed Te Haupoi Māori o Aotearoa Inc.

Following a disputed vote at the 2025 AGM, differences over Māori hockey governance led to the formation of a separate entity rather than being resolved within the existing organisation.

NZ Māori Hockey Inc. sincerely apologises to our Māori hockey communities for the distress, uncertainty and division arising from these governance issues. We remain committed to reconciliation, rebuilding trust and resolving differences. Our players, whānau and communities deserve better. Together, we can build a stronger future for Māori hockey.

With two separate legal entities now in existence, each is responsible for its own governance, communication and accountability. Both must operate independently, within their own legal and constitutional boundaries, and follow proper processes.

Neither entity may act or speak for the other without authority, misrepresent itself as the other, or use the other’s identity in a way that creates confusion about its legal status or authority. Both must communicate clearly and be transparent about their governance, decisions and responsibilities.

Our priority is to ensure the community receives clear, accurate information, which organisation it relates to, and the correct processes to follow.
