2026 Māori Hockey Tournament

He Whānau Kotahi – One Hockey Whānau

A Weekend of Hockey, Pride and Connection

The 2026 National Māori Hockey Tournament brought another Labour Weekend of hockey, whanaungatanga and Māori pride to Kirikiriroa, Hamilton.

Hosted by Waikato-Maniapoto at Gallagher Hockey Centre from 23–26 October, the 34th tournament brought together more than 28 teams from across Aotearoa to compete, reconnect and celebrate our shared passion for hockey.

More Than Just a Game

Beyond the competition, this tournament is about so much more than what happens on the turf. It is an opportunity to strengthen connections between our rohe, celebrate our tikanga and whakapapa, and pass our kaupapa on to the next generation.

From the opening pōwhiri and competitive games to Pō Whakangahau, the finals and poroporoaki, we are reminded of the strength of our Māori hockey whānau and the connections that make this kaupapa special.

He mihi nui to Waikato-Maniapoto for hosting this year’s tournament, and to the volunteers, officials, coaches, managers, players, whānau and supporters whose time, dedication and commitment help make this kaupapa possible.

One Whānau, Many Rohe

As we reflect on another tournament, let us also remember what brings us together.

In a world that continues to change, our ability to come together as one is something to value and protect. We may come from different rohe, hold different views and walk different paths, but we share a love for hockey and a connection through our people.

A Place for Everyone

Let us continue to care for one another, respect our differences and create an environment where everyone feels welcome, valued and included.

There is no place for discrimination or division in a kaupapa that has the power to unite us. We all have a part to play in upholding the mana of others, leading with aroha and ensuring our hockey whānau remains a place of belonging for everyone.

Looking Ahead – Stronger Together

As we look ahead to the next tournament, may we carry these values with us, both on and off the turf.

Let us celebrate our differences, strengthen our connections and remember that our greatest achievement is not only what we accomplish as teams, but what we build together as a whānau.

Kotahitanga. Whanaungatanga. Manaakitanga.

He waka eke noa — we are all in this together.

Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou katoa. Until we meet again, travel safely and continue to uphold the mana of our game, our people and our kaupapa.
